Sunday January 28: Come Sing with Us/Ven a cantar con nosotros – Mozart, Haydn y Händel: Today’s program features Regina Coeli K 276; “a bright joyful work by Mozart…Rejoice Queen of Heaven is traditionally sung from Easter Sunday through to the Saturday before Pentecost. The choral portion of the work is in Latin with each voice on a separate staff including solos, pianos and the orchestra.”  Te Deum Laudamus de Haydn; under pressure and a special request to Haydn, Empress Maria Therese [wife of Franz 1] pressed Haydn into writing “sacred pieces” for a popular soprano as the Empress deemed his voice to be “pleasant but weak!”. On stage will be: soprano Perla Azucena Orrantia Durán; mezzosoprano Lucia del Carmen Ramierez Casillas; tenor Jesús Miguel Holguin Blancas; bass Mario Vega; the impressive volunteer singers from Coro de la Comunidad de Culiacan and the talented Camerata Campbell. Noon, $300, cash only. [A Gordon Campbell Sunday Concert Series.] Friday February 2: Pre-Carnaval event.
